Things are quiet tonight around one Macomb County neighborhood tonight. Quite a different scene earlier today as explosions shook a lot of people. My TV 20's Dave Leval shows us what triggered the blast, and why state leaders claim its' good for the area.

It's stood silent for more than seven years. But, the McGregor Library in Highland Park will soon re-open its doors.

Mayor Hubert Yopp
“We're pleased to announce the filming of Highland Park-The Movie."

Mayor Hubert Yopp makes it clear the library will play a key role in the film that will star Danny Glover. It will focus on the city's rise and fall, and efforts to rebuild the local economy.

Andrew Meiran/Writer, Director, Producer "Highland Park"
"I was looking for a quintessential American story, a quintessential town, and an area that needed focus and direction."

Crews will renovate the library for the movie. It will remain open once filming stops. City leaders tell us the library will once again become more than a safe place for children to go.

Mayor Yopp
"There was a time when children in this city could go to the library, check out a book, hear great stories that inspired them to perform piano recitals before family and friends."

"So the sun will rise once again on this historic building. You could say it's the dawning of a new day on another Southeaster Michigan city, a red dawn."

Explosions destroy this house on Kendrick Street in Mount Pleasant. It's one of the scenes being filmed around the area, for the remake of the classic 1980's movie, "Red Dawn." Both projects involve crews mostly from Michigan due to the state's film
tax incentive.

Lt. Gov. John Cherry/(D)-Michigan
"Because they're here, because of the economic activity they're generating, it's important the tax incentive remain, so we can continue to see these efforts."

The payoff for Highland Park includes the re-opening of its library after seven years. Dave Leval, My TV 20 News at 10.

Filming of "Highland Park" begins later this month. We have not been told when it will be released. "Red Dawn" will also be shot around Pontiac during the last two weeks of the month. "Red Dawn" hits theaters next September.
