Since its release this summer, demand for a sequel to J.J. Abrams' re-boot of Star Trek has been steadily increasing. The ever-secretive director has remained relatively mum on details about the inevitable continuation, but there's been no lack of speculation about the potential for series-favorite Khan to appear in Abrams' alternate universe. Abrams recently gave an interview to MTV in which he vaguely discussed the possibility.

"Now that we are in a parallel existence with what fans of the original series love so much, we could introduce any number of characters, settings, references and situations that the original series introduced. Dealing with Khan would certainly be a challenge, but we had an equal challenge in finding our crew of the Enterprise," said Abrams. "While I don't want to approach the second film as a remake of episodes we've seen in the past, and I don't think any of the other writers or producers are interested in just rehasing or throwing characters in for the sake of it... Khan is certainly the most obvious one in the history of the series for me... I do think that there are... nothing is off limits in terms of what we're discussing."

Certainly not a confirmation, but definitely not an outright denial, it appears as if fans may have the opportunity to see Kirk's legendary nemesis in this rebooted franchise. Stay tuned to IGN Movies for more.
