Conyers On Ballot

8/4/2009

Former Detroit city councilwoman Monica Conyers could be one of the candidates that advances to the November general election. Conyers, who recently resigned from her position, still appeared on todays primary election ballot. That's because she had announced her re-election run before pleading guilty to bribery charges in the Synagro scandal. If she gets enough votes, she'll automatically advance to the general election. However, a Michigan elections law prevents convicted felons from claiming victory in a general election.
