More Corruption

8/6/2009

Another Metro Detroit politician pleads guilty to bribery today. It's tonight's big story at 10. William Lattimore plead guilty for taking bribes and it could lead to more problems for political consultant Sam Riddle and former state representative Mary Waters who are also being accused of bribery. My TV 20's Jorge Avellan has more.

Southfield city councilman William Lattimore plead guilty of taking 75 hundred dollars in bribe to approve the relocation of "Zeidman Jewerly and Loan" in Southfield.

As he left, the federal court house in Detroit, Lattimore did not comment, leaving that up to his lawyer.

Arlene Woods
"This is a very sad day, but after much measured and considertation with Mr. Lattimore, his family and his council we decided that this is the best way to resolve this issue."

Even though the councilman hasn't officilally resigned, Southfield city officials told My TV 20 off camera his position is deemed vacant.

Arlene Woods
"That is within the city charter and I'm not certain how that works but we will respect whatever the city charter calls for and Mr. Lattimore will comply with that."

In exchange for not spending more than 30 months in jail, Lattimore cut a deal with the feds in which he agreed to cooperate in a federal bribery investigation against political consultant Sam Riddle and former state representative Mary Waters.

With out cooperation with investigators Lattimore could have been sentenced up to 10 years.
