Interim Budget10/1/2009
MICHIGAN HAS SURVIVED THE SHORT-LIVED STATE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN, BUT PLENTY OF FISCAL FIGHTS ARE STILL ON THE WAY, IN LANSING.
LAWMAKERS APPROVED AN INTERIM BUDGET AND SENT IT TO THE GOVERNOR IN THE EARLY-MORNING HOURS TODAY, ENDING THE STATE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN... JUST A COUPLE HOURS AFTER IT BEGAN. LAWMAKERS NOW HAVE 30-DAYS TO PUT A PERMANENT BUDGET IN-PLACE. THE INTERIM BUDGET BECAME NECESSARY... AFTER A DEAL TO FILL THE SHORTFALL WITH FEDERAL RECOVERY DOLLARS -- AND MORE THAN ONE-BILLION DOLLARS IN BUDGET CUTS -- FELL THROUGH. MANY LAWMAKERS SAY THEY COULDN'T APPROVE THE DEEP CUTS TO SCHOOLS AND LOCAL SERVICES. More Good Stuff |
