Kwame Back In Court

11/17/2009

Tomorrow, former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will be back in Detroit for a restitution hearing. Kilpatrick, who still owes the city of Detroit over nine hundred thousand dollars in restitution will face judge David Groner once again to request a payment reduction.

The former mayor wants his monthly payment to drop from six thousand to six dollars.

He claims after paying utility bills and his Dallas Texas rent, where he now lives with his family, he can’t afford his current restitution payment.

Some lawyers believe a payment reduction is not very likely.

CRIMINAL ATTORNEY
"The prosecution is saying that he really doesn’t have to pay these bills, that he’s paying them because he wants to. That he has the ability to pay his rent, his rent, through his wife’s earnings. So that could be something that the judge takes into consideration."
