Strengthening Michigan’s Literary Community 1 Reader & Writer at a Time

Motown Writers Network & Equity in Partnership presents the 4th Annual Essence of Motown Literary Jam. The only Detroit writing conference of its kind, the conference will feature national and local authors, writers and poets in a weekend full of literary workshops, a town hall discussion, a literary award dinner and a Publisher’s Symposium at Southern Fires on Sunday.

This spectacular weekend will kick off with a literary showcase and poetry jam on Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. Speakers and performers include Cathy Garrett, Wayne County Clerk; poets, Marsha Carter and Cherrie Amour; author readings; a vendor fair; and book signings.

Saturdaycontinues with workshops that range from self-publishing to editing and marketing along with celebrity book signings & social gatherings. Special guests will include Tina Brooks McKinney, Strebor author, part of Zane's publishing division, who will serve as the breakfast keynote at 9:30 a.m. Also Vincent Alexandria, Harlequin/Kimani Press Author and Founder of Brother2Brother Symposium, will serve as keynote speaker at the Literary Award Dinner at 7 p.m.

Another Saturday highlight will be the Town Hall Meeting at 4 p.m. entitled “Conversations in Black: Urban Literacy.” This meeting will be moderated by urban analyst, Edward Foxworth III, former host of the CBS/CW50 public affairs show- Streetbeat. Confirmed panelists are Ken Harris, president, International Detroit Black Expo and Frank Turner, author and former Emmy award-winning Channel 7 news anchor.

The Motown Writers Network distinguished authors includes: Erica Martin (Second Time Shame on Me), Monica L. Jones (Better Late Than Never), Sylvia Hubbard (Stones Revenge & Secrets, Lies & Family Ties), J.G.
