Friday, November 7, 2008- Citadel Community Development Corporation (CDC) in conjunction with the Citadel of Praise Women of Influence Ministry will be hosting a Day of Community Empowerment on Friday, November 7, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Citadel of Praise Ministries located at 20280 Lyndon Ave in Detroit, MI. All activities and seminars are free of charge with free registration.

The day will be filled with free health and wellness testing which will include blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol screenings. HIV testing and presentational discussions on women’s health issues will be held. Additionally, health resources from the Red Cross, Karmanos Cancer Center, Health Alliance Plan and Sinai Grace Hospital will be on site.

Other free resources available will include seminars on domestic violence with self defense techniques and representatives from Sisters Against Domestic Violence, Detroit Police Department and Looking for My Sister, SAFE. Legal assistance and advice will be available for discussing the importance of estate and trust planning, why individuals need power of attorney, FMLA employment laws and long term medicare.

Employment opportunities and on-site applications will be made available from Forge Industrial Staffing, CVS Pharmacy, Sprint PCS and the Department of Homeland Security. Resume writing and editing as well as interviewing skills and techniques will be offered. Michigan prisoner re-entry initiative representatives will also be on hand to discuss ways to enter back into the work force in Michigan.

Educational, vocation and human services opportunities will be available for those seeking educational opportunities including visitation from Cosmetology, vocation and trade schools as well as Schoolcraft college, Marygrove College and Wayne County Community College. Additionally, representatives from the Social Security Administration, WIC, GED and Matrix Human Services will be available.

Complimentary transportation is available and lunch will be provided for all ‘Day of Community Empowerment’ participants.
