Hank Williams Jr. Gone From 'Monday Night Football'

October 6, 2011

ESPN on Thursday announced it has parted ways with country singer Hank Williams Jr. as the opening act for its Monday Night Football broadcast, several days after Williams made controversial political remarks comparing President Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler during a television interview on Fox News.

In a statement, ESPN said:

"We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years.  The success of Monday Night Football has always been about the games and that will continue."
