DETROIT, Mi. (My TV20 News at 10) --- The Big 3 posted great sales in July, the kind of numbers they haven't seen in years. People are buying cars again and that's driving up production.
GM's July was a good one - up 16% in the month over a year ago.
Chrysler had an 11% pop, and so did Ford.
GM's pickup sales were up 51% over a year ago and car sales were up 42%. The smallest cars in their line-up, the Cruze and Spark, were sales leaders in July for GM.
It was the best July for Ford in seven years. Ford's 11% increase was thanks in large part from sales of smaller cars and hybrids. Ford says it's having trouble keeping up with demand for its Escape SUV and Fusion sedan.
Ford says its new C-Max hybrid, the Fiesta, Focus had a great month.
July was also a strong month for Chrysler. It was also their best month since July, 2006. Their RAM truck lead the company's model brands, up 31% in July.
