DETROIT, Mi. (My TV20 News at 10) --- Joe Gentz will spend 17 to 28 years in prison in the murder-for-hire death of Jane Bashara.
Gentz was the Bashara family handyman in Grosse Pointe Farms. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in December in the woman's death. Bashara was strangled to death in January, 2012.
He said he was promised money by Bashara's husband Bob to kill her. Bob Bashara has already been convicted in the crime and is in prison.
At this morning's sentencing, Gentz asked for forgiveness, saying he is "very sorry" for what he did. Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans said that though Gentz had a limited mental capacity, he definitely knew the difference between right and wrong.
