MICHIGAN (My TV20 News at 10) --- A teen behind the wheel and a cellphone to their ear - it's a recipe for disaster.

Thursday, Michigan's so-called "Kelsey's Law" goes into effect. It was enacted after a Sault Ste. Marie teenager died in a crash while on her cell phone.

The law prohibits young teens with a temporary drivers permit or is under the age of 17 from driving and talking on their cell. Get caught, and they'd be cited for a moving violation and fined.

The new law, signed by Governor Rick Snyder earlier this year, is designed to prevent tragedy - but will it work? TV20's Kristin Pierce has details behind the law, and whether it will really work the way it was designed.
