STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION (TNG) is the second live action STAR TREK TV series, set in the 24th century. Like its predecessor it was created by Gene Roddenberry.

STAR TREK: TNG moved the universe forward roughly a century past the day of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock. The series depicted a new age in which the Klingons were allies of the Federation, though the Romulans remained adversaries. New threats included the Ferenghi, the Cardassians, and the Borg.

As with the original STAR TREK, TNG was still very much about exploration, "going where no one has gone before." Similarly, the show centered around the adventures of the crew of the Starship USS Enterprise-D.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) commands the Enterprise and his crew includes Data (Brent Spiner), an android through we examine our own human nature, Lt Wolf (Michael Dorn) a Klingon who exemplifies humanities confident pacifism, Commander Riker a hot headed young officer with an interest in the ladies, Counselor Troi (Marina Sirtis) an empath who unveils the emotions and motives of those who would hide... and Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge (La Var Burton) a blind officer who is capable of seeing it all.

STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION was so successful it led to two spin-offs STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine and STAR TREK: Voyager.
