New Campaign for Operation Good Cheer

NONPROFIT AGENCY LAUNCHES TEXT MESSAGE DONATION CAMPAIGN TO MAKE CHRISTMAS WISHES COME TRUE FOR ABUSED AND NEGLECTED CHILDREN

Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc. (CFSM) has recently launched a text-messaging fund-raising campaign to support Operation Good Cheer, its annual Christmas gift-giving program for kids in foster care. This social-media campaign targets donors of all ages, demographics and economic means.
By simply texting OGC to 27722, cell phone users can make a difference in the lives of children spending their Christmas in an out-of-home placement. Supporters would then follow prompts to confirm their gift of $10, which will be added to their mobile phone bill/deducted from their prepaid account. Message and data rates may apply. Full terms are available at: mGive.org/T.

These text donations will support Operation Good Cheer, a volunteer-driven program making Christmas wishes come true for children residing in foster care, group homes, and residential treatment facilities.
"Child and Family Services of Michigan understands that every donation, large or small, makes a difference in the lives of kids participating in Operation Good Cheer," said Eric Hufnagel, CFSM’s associate director of development and administration. "We see this campaign as a valuable resource in our effort to provide joy and hope to kids who are living in some very difficult circumstances."

About Operation Good Cheer

Operation Good Cheer originated in 1971 with a group of Ford Motor Company employees seeking to improve the lives of abused and neglected children. That year, 66 children received Christmas gifts. CFSM now works with thousands of volunteers and 40 private agencies to connect more than four thousand children with individual, family, organization and employment-based donors across the state.
Sponsors receive a personalized “Wish List” for each child to help guide their purchases. Wrapped gifts are collected from various drop-off locations on December 3rd and distributed to participating agencies on December 4th via donated ground transportation and volunteer-piloted “Spirit of Good Cheer” flights.
