Inaugural golf outing benefits children in foster care across the state of Michigan
Okemos, MI – November 11, 2010: Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc. (CFSM) received a generous contribution as a result of a recent golf outing sponsored by the Michigan Wireless Association (MWA). This donation will be used to support the children of Operation Good Cheer, a volunteer-driven program making Christmas wishes come true for children affected by abuse and neglect who are now residing in foster care.
“Serving as a positive force within Michigan communities is a key goal of the Michigan Wireless Association,” states Mike Lord, MWA board president, and an Operation Good Cheer program volunteer pilot who has delivered gifts during the “Spirit of Good Cheer” flight for the last ten years.
It was the first such fundraising event and donation made by MWA, which came into being just this past spring, making the donation an even more significant one.
“Early on, MWA decided to sponsor a charitable cause that had a statewide impact and one that would bring help to those who need it most,” Lord noted. “Child and Family Services of Michigan was unanimously chosen by our leadership group to be the recipient of our first annual charitable gift. We are pleased that we are a part of Operation Good Cheer and equally pleased that we have been able to exceed our targeted goal for this worthy cause.”
"We are extremely grateful CFSM was chosen as the recipient of this wonderful gift and for
the support from the MWA," noted Sharon Vichcales, director of Child and Family Services of

Michigan. “This donation will bring hope to many children.”
More than 17,000 children lived in out-of-home placements in the state of Michigan in 2009 with a similar number expected in 2010.
“Whether it’s abuse and neglect, prenatal exposure to drugs or alcohol, substance abuse in the home, or other detrimental living conditions in the home,” Vichcales points out, “children suffer the consequences of many bad things that happen in our communities and it’s our collective responsibility to promote the emotional and social well-being of Michigan’s children and families.”
