Free Event for American Heart Month

One in three American adults is affected by a type of cardiovascular disease, with heart disease currently ranked as the nation’s leading cause of death. To bring much-needed attention to the issues surrounding heart health and cardiac care during American Heart Month, Quality Home Health Care Services of Michigan will host a free community education event on Thursday, February 24.

From 2 – 4 p.m. at Detroit’s Northwest Activities Center, the QHHC cardiac team will engage attendees in an interactive afternoon of education and exercise. Cathy Nelson, cardiac team member and a registered nurse, will lead a true or false session dubbed “Cardiac Health: Fact Versus Fiction,” a game-format segment focused on addressing common questions and misconceptions about heart health. Topics varying from general knowledge to reacting to real life scenarios will be posed, and attendees will be encouraged to join the discussion and then answer a true or false questionnaire. At the end of 12 questions, winners will be rewarded with giveaways.

Lashaun Pritchett, the team’s exercise physiologist, will cover issues related to heart health and fitness, and she also will demonstrate chair exercises ideal for those recovering from cardiac events or at risk for future cardiac issues.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call toll free 313-340-1240.
