The Legend Trail Races Set for August 4
At Sleepy Hollow State Park, Laingsburg, Michigan
Sign up now to run in The Legend Trail Races, set for Saturday, August 4 at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, Michigan on Lake Ovid.
This year there will be a half-marathon, 5-mile and 10-mile race. The half-marathon is returning to The Legend for its second year; all finishers of the half-marathon will receive a medal. You can register at The Legend website at www.runlegend.com.
The races at Sleepy Hollow State Park are on great trails, many of which are grass covered. There are some hills, but all in all, it’s fairly easy by most trail run standards.
According to The Legend Event Director Randy Step, “This is a wonderful trail race, and the number of registrations reflects the increased interest in off-road racing. Each course is entirely off-road. Because of the different distances and the venue, this is a great first time trail run. If you are more experienced it is a run where you can put the hammer down and run a fast time.”
Sleepy Hollow State Park includes 2,600 acres of hardwood forest, prairie grassland and 410 acre Lake Ovid. The runs circle Lake Ovid and several other small lakes in a beautiful, lightly hiked and biked area of Michigan. There are some low areas that can be a bit wet and dirty, adding to the fun. Sleepy Hollow State Park is 20 minutes north of Lansing, and about an hour and a half drive from Metro Detroit.
“Most runners finish with a jump in the lake, and many hang out at the beach,” said Step. ”Also, since many of the runners camp overnight in the park, they go back and celebrate at the campgrounds.”
The Legend is put on by Running Fit, a company that promotes running and individual wellness through event planning and its seven retail stores. The Legend is one of the 2012 Trail Runner Trophy Series of races. Anyone who finishes a Trophy Series race is automatically entered. Visit www.trailrunnermag.com/trophy.php for more info.
