The honorable Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will help Seldom Blues, Detroit’s premier entertainment restaurant, celebrate its fifth anniversary on Friday, June 12 at 6 p.m.
For $25, Seldom Blues will present a strolling buffet and entertainment from the Motown sounds of Michael Brock, Seldom Blues’ own Alexander Zonjic, jazz saxophonist Randy Scott and the smooth sounds of the famed R&B and jazz singer Will Downing. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Youth Connection, the Youth Connection, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing participation for after-school programs, job training and career opportunities for Detroit’s youth.
“With everything going on around us, it is a blessing to celebrate five years of wonderful food, great service and premier entertainment,” said Taylor. “I truly believe Detroit is a great city for fine dining and upscale jazz.”
Spanning 15,000 square feet, the restaurant comfortably seats 300 and is located in Tower 400 of the General Motors Renaissance Center with panoramic views of the Detroit River, Ambassador Bridge and Canadian skyline. Conveniently located in close proximity to major freeways, the location provides guests with front door valet parking, a lavish private dining area that seats up to 50 people, a chef’s table that overlooks the kitchen and the river as well as a state of the art staging area for local and national entertainment.
Taylor, a 26-year veteran of the hospitality and restaurant industry, opened the restaurant in June 2004 with partners Robert Porcher, retired defensive end for the Detroit Lions, internationally acclaimed jazz musician Alexander Zonjic and executive concept chef Jerry Nottage.
Since opening in June 2004, Seldom Blues has been recognized as the 2006 “Restaurant of the Year” by the Detroit Free Press and one of 2007’s “Best Bars in America” by Esquire Magazine. It also is a favorite of Detroit’s own Aretha Franklin, who recently hosted her birthday party at the restaurant.
