Detroit, MI-June 21, 2010-As the pioneer in the Detroit cleanup initiative and candidate for State Representative in District 8, Tamika L. Gaines, is serious about cleaning up the city of Detroit. That’s why on Saturday, June 26, Gaines is joining forces with Neighborhood Revitalization and Community Transformation Project-One Lot at a Time, from 10 AM-2 PM on the corner of Sylvester and Gratiot on Detroit’s eastside. Following the cleanup, please join Gaines at the Renaissance Bowling Center located at 19600 Woodward Ave in Detroit, MI. This family event will be held from 5-8 PM.

Gaines feels that it is so important for residents to get actively involved in rebuilding and replenishing the communities. “If a candidate will not get to work for you in Detroit, how will they fight for you in Lansing? I'm a fighter now and I will continue to fight for the residents of Detroit”, stated Gaines.

Gaines believes that prior to running for office, during, and after, one should be found improving Detroit, not just at election time. “Being an elected official is not just about sitting in community meetings and jotting down an occasional note. It’s about getting down for your cause and rolling up your sleeves at the ground level and effecting change in the community”, stated Gaines.

For the past years, Gaines has been busy in the community, educating residents about financial empowerment, spearheading over five community cleanup projects and helping to beautify the Detroit.

“I want to help keep Detroit beautiful and thriving and I am so proud to join forces with a community organization that embraces the process to actively clean up the city One Lot at a Time”, stated Gaines.

The cleanup project is scheduled from 10 AM - 2PM on Saturday June 26 on the corner of Sylvester and Gratiot on Detroit’s eastside. After the cleanup project, please grab your bowling ball and head to Renaissance Bowl and join Gaines at her family bowling fundraiser from 5- 8 PM. Attendees who participate in the cleanup project will be admitted for a $10 donation, otherwise admission is $20 for the bowling event.
