SMACC, Southern Michigan’s Arts and Creativity Conference, will be bringing together all manner of independent artist, crafter, performer, and filmmaker this July 24th and 25th at the Doubletree Hotel, Dearborn, in a show open to the public. This is the first event of its kind, showcasing independents in a way to provide both collaboration among the professionals and entertainment for the general audience, including thirty-two hours of continuous entertainment including a fashion show by Detroit’s own Laurette Designs, music by diverse artists including EPROM Colony, folk artist Tom Smith, and the experimental music of the Detroit Space Band. Artists and crafters of all types, from game designers to woodworkers to corsetieres will be present in an open arts and crafts exhibition designed to encourage networking and collaboration.
Chief Business Officer Michael Marcus explains, “With this event, we put all manner of independent creatorship on an even playing field, encouraging networking and skill-sharing among those who need it most and building Michigan’s film industry from the ground up. Through the exhibitors, we also show Hollywood’s film companies that if they want to shoot in Michigan, all the talent they need is here—they don’t have to import anyone from California.”
