Local Detroit Renaissance Woman
Writes Passionately About the City She Loves
Crystal Reign Brock: The Flower That Grew From Concrete

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 29, 2013, Detroit, MI- Writer, actress, playwright and poet, Crystal Reign Brock is desperately trying to save Detroit's cultural landscape. She's produced a plethora of original works ladened with elegance, intelligence and rare creative quality. She's studied the masters of literature and art, the evidence of that exposure obvious in the quality of what she produces. She's taken all that she knows and all that she is to local community theater groups and acting studios introducing students to a superior level of the humanities and all the while, she's been releasing the greatest series of literature of her own.

Considerations of Life, her inaugural collection of verses is an honest and vulnerable collection of poetic truths that speaks very relatable tales of pain, heartache, disappointments, and expresses her dire need for and love affair with art. Its overwhelming desperation to create strikes a chord with its reader as Brock achingly communicates the need for art not to dissipate with the cavalier flair of a sinking city.

Her current work, Listening Between the Lines is a refreshing poetic ode to Detroit, past and present with an overwhelming inspirational tone for its future. A necessary outcry for the much needed loyalty and passion Detroit deserves, Listening Between the Lines uses the character D'City to channel the heart and soul of what Detroit has always been; strong and rich with an invaluable artistic heritage. Brock's cultural contributions to Detroit's creative community feel singular in efforts as a soloist delivering an awe-inspiring song, inciting movement and emotion to the masses with only one voice. The power of what she delivers is only matched by the need for it to be delivered and she continues to do it with every word she speaks and verse she writes. Currently available on Amazon.com Listening Between the Lines is a gratifying collection of verses that will speak volumes of what Detroit was, is, has been and will be. It is a must read for its residents and especially its young people as well as the national general public at large. Crystal Reign Brock 'reigns' as a stalwart representative of the fiber of a once thriving city that deserves to thrive again.

Detroit native Crystal Reign Brock established writer, poet, actress and playwright. Her collection of poetry, narratives and plays both entitled Considerations of Life and Listening Between the Lines can be purchased on Kindle, Xlibiris.com, amazon.com (print on demand), and iBooks respectively. Listening Between the Lines is available on paperback at Create Space. Crystal Brock currently resides in Michigan where she is steadily creating great works of art and lending her vision to local theater groups. “Friend” Crystal on Facebook and LinkedIn at Crystal Reign Brock, or follow her on twitter at @crystalreignb.

Milford, Mich.--The Village Fine Arts Association (VFAA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Andrea Perry as its Director of Development. As the first-ever VFAA employee, Perry will focus on bringing the Suzanne Haskew Art Center (SHAC) to Milford.

“Andrea is a creative thinker with strong community contacts and ties to Milford,” said Susan Gollon, VFAA Executive Director. “With our community’s help, we are confident that Andrea will lead the VFAA in fulfilling our dream of bringing an art center to Milford.” The VFAA has been an all-volunteer organization for over two decades but the decision and challenge to move forward with the SHAC required a dedicated, compensated director. The VFAA looks forward to continuing and expanding their active role in the community with this exciting new concept.

The granddaughter of Suzie Haskew, one of the founding mothers of the VFAA, Andrea credits her attraction to the arts to her grandmother. Growing up in South Lyon, Andrea spent much of her childhood in Milford attending community events with her family. After marrying life-long Milford resident Isaac Perry in 2001, the couple made their home with their two children in Isaac’s childhood home in the village.

To learn more and assist in the SHAC planning, local residents are encouraged to visit www.milfordvfaa.org to complete a survey or contact Andrea at shac@milfordvfaa.org
or at 248-797-3060

About the VFAA

Since 1992, the VFAA’s mission is to provide individual artists with opportunities for fellowship, inspiration and education by organizing, promoting and presenting monthly meetings with guest artists, workshops and juried exhibitions. We coordinate and participate with other community groups in art-related events to increase our visibility and further showcase our community's creativity derived from the freedom of artistic expression. Learn more at www.milfordvfaa.org. The VFAA is a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization.

I am writing to share with you my passion for helping grieving school-aged youth and their families and my mission to provide grief support in local schools. Why do we need grief support in our schools? Children feel the effects of unemployment, divorce, multiple deployments, disability, home foreclosures, life-threatening illnesses, incarceration and homelessness. Grief impacts a child’s ability to concentrate at school and their sense of well being causing them to be clingy, depressed and in some cases, suicidal. It also robs them of the opportunity to succeed. How can a child study for a test or set goals when they are emotionally distraught and don't know what to do with their grief?

I almost lost my only child due to suicide due to unresolved grief, but an astute teacher knew something was wrong. I am now a Board Certified Healthcare Chaplain who started Partners Of Hope, a non-profit charitable organization that will offer an 8-week grief education class and peer grief support groups in Pontiac schools. Our goal is to heal grief and make room for hope and success. We plan to start our pilot in October 2012 and are in need of donations to hire our first chaplain.

Won't you please help? The need is great. Together, we can heal and change lives.
