Showers: The New Washing Machine?
Imagine living in an area so drought-stricken you were asked to wash your clothes as you showered! Well, it's for real and it's happening in the Southeastern United States.
A historic drought in the South is prompting extreme rationining measures in a normally wet region. In the middle of it, Atlanta. A community that is bracing for water restrictions that some say will be the harshest anywhere in the U.S. in 30 years. Lakes are shrinking and some regional officials forecast communities could run out of water in 90 days. Atlanta's main water source is 16 feet below normal this year and it continues to shrink about a foot a week. While the conservation measures inside the home are still voluntary in the Atlanta area, the entire state is under a mandatory outdoor watering ban. There is also talk of much stricter water rationing within Atlanta's city limits which would impact not only homeowners, but businesses too. |
