Play On: Eco-Friendly Sports

Going green with your sports equipment is probably not be the first thing you think about when it comes to becoming more eco-friendly. But as it happens, there are lots of options out there. First off, how about re-use. Lots of gear from soccer balls to hockey pads to baseball gloves is made to last.

Someone else’s decision to trade-in their old stuff can be a boon for you. Check out some of the used sporting goods stores in your area, or go online. If you really want to go new all the way, think about buying Fair Trade equipment.

A Fair Trade seal of approval means the gear was made in an eco-friendly way that didn’t waste resources and that the workers behind it were paid a fair, living wage in the manufacturing country. For more information and to find out what kind of Fair Trade equipment is currently available, go to www.fairtradesports.com
