Democratic Primary "do-over" in Cardiac Arrest

The possibility of a second state primary – the proverbial “Do Over” isn't looking very good. According to the MIRS News Service, Senate Democrats emerged from a closed-door caucus & remarked that the hope of a special June 3rd primary election is all but dead.

Municipal and county clerks are adamantly against a re-do, claiming that there just isn't enough time or money to get a primary together. This despite promises of Governors Corzine of New Jersey (NJ) and Rendell of Pennsylvania (PA) to secure financing to pay for it.

Senator Hillary Clinton changed her plans and flew into Michigan in support of holding a second primary election. Clinton bluntly challenged Senator Obama to agree to new primaries in Michigan and Florida. She said it was "wrong, and frankly un-American" not to have the two delegations seated at the Democratic National Convention.

Senator Obama speaks passionately on the campaign trail about empowering the American people," said the former first lady, who trails her rival in delegates won to date. "Today I am asking him to match those words with actions."

Clinton said nothing less than the outcome of the general election may be at stake in the dispute over the two states. "The road to a Democratic White House goes through Michigan and Florida.”

There are strong political calculations at work, as well as
Clinton trails Obama in convention delegates after primaries and caucuses in more than 40 states, and her chances of catching up are remote at best. Lopsided victories in second primaries in Florida and Michigan would help narrow the delegate deficit.

With the Democratic candidates tracking so closely going into the convention, it is still thought that Michigan and Florida, which gave up on the primary "re-do" idea as well, will receive strong marketing dollars going into the November general election regardless of nominee.
