Worthy Appeal - Let an Outsider Do It
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy The prosecutor who filed perjury and other charges against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former top aide has appealed a decision upholding a 36th District Court judge's ruling not to disqualify himself and the entire bench from hearing the criminal case against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
According to information from Kym Worthy's office, the prosecutor’s office filed the appeal last Friday with Wayne County Circuit Court. She has called the refusal on April 24thl by Chief Judge Marylin Atkins to remove Judge Ronald Giles from the case "disturbing." Worthy had asked that an outside judge hear the perjury, misconduct and obstruction of justice case against Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty. They are accused of lying under oath during a whistle-blowers' trial last year. |
