Dave Bing
In 1966…Dave Bing joined the NBA as a first-round pick of the Detroit Pistons, where in his rookie year he averaged 20.0 points per game and was named the NBA Rookie of the Year. Bing was a volunteer in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and has always been community-minded. He later went on to become a successful businessman…founding The Bing Group[1] in the Detroit area after his retirement. The company, among other things, supplies metal stampings to the auto industry. On January 19…2009…Bing received the National Civil Rights Museum Sports Legacy Award honoring athletes who have made significant contributions to civil and human rights causes.

Ken Cockrel Jr.
Kenneth V. Cockrel, Jr has served on the Detroit City Council since 1998. A former journalist, Wayne County Commissioner and community activist, Councilman Cockrel made history as the youngest person ever elected to this body in 1997. He was reelected in 2001 and was elevated to the position of President Pro Tem. Cockrel was elected to his third term in November 2005 and elevated to the position of President after receiving more votes than any other City Council candidate.

Freman Hendrix
Freman Hendrix is not new to running a mayoral campaign. He first ran for office back in 2005 before losing a close race to the incumbent Mayor…Kwame Kilpatrick. He is the former Chief of Staff and Deputy Mayor of Detroit under former Mayor Dennis Archer. He also held the offices of Chairman of the appointed Detroit School Board and Assistant Wayne County Executive. Mr. Hendrix was the Chief Government Relations Officer at Eastern Michigan University. The he focused on strengthening relationships with legislators in Lansing and Washington, D.C. He received his Bachelors of Business Administration degree from EMU in 1982.

Warren C. Evans
Wayne County Sheriff Warren Evans is one of the state’s leading criminal justice professionals. He has served as a police officer, correctional officer, supervisor, manager and administrator. He also has held executive positions in numerous law enforcement fields. Prior to becoming Sheriff in January 2003, Evans served as Chief of Special Operations at the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. His areas of responsibility included the prosecutor’s Juvenile Division, Police Shooting Investigations, Major Drug Prosecutions, Drug House Unit and Auto Theft. A life-long Detroit resident, Evans has held every rank within the Sheriff’s Department…eventually serving as Undersheriff to Sheriff Robert Ficano from 1987-1991.

Donald R. Bradley
Donald R. Bradley was born in Detroit, Michigan at Herman Keefer Hospital. He attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Mackenzie High School. As an impressionable adolescent, Donald witnessed one of the golden ages in Detroit’s history with the rise of the automotive industry, the influence of the Motown Sound, and the economic prosperity of the city.

Stanley Michael Christmas
Stanley Christmas has had a life filled with community activism and unrelenting support for the city. He was born on April 24, 1949 on the eastside of Detroit. He attended schools in the Detroit Public School System and received his diploma from Southeastern High School. The product of a strict upbringing, he was the first of his family to complete his college education, graduating from Wayne State University in 1982 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.

Nicholas Hood III
In New Orleans, Louisiana in 1951, Nicholas Hood, III was born into the steamy, segregated south. Like many Detroiters, he and his family migrated north in 1958. Rev. Hood attended Doty, Winterhalter and Chrysler Elementary schools. He graduated from Cass Technical High school in 1969. While in high school, he founded and led a popular dance band called “The Seven Sounds”. After graduating from Wayne State University in 1973 with a degree in economics, Hood pursued a Master of Divinity Degree from Yale University.

Sharon McPhail
Sharon McPhail is the former general counsel for the City of Detroit. She was also a member of the Detroit City Council from 2002 until 2006. McPhail ran for mayor twice before only to find herself finishing no better than a distant third. The former private practice lawyer was a division chief in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office, and an Assistant United States Attorney. McPhail holds a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from Northeastern University School of Law in Boston and a bachelor's degree in sociology and English from Northeastern University. She was admitted to the Michigan Bar Association in 1976.

Duane Montgomery
Duane Montgomery was born to Detroit Bus Driver Duane, and Helen. Duane's mother later also became a Detroit Bus driver. With both parents working out of the Detroit's Shoemaker Bus Terminal, Duane attended Southeastern High School. Through the sacrifices and assistance of Duane's parents, Duane was able to attend and graduate from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. After college, Duane began working for local Detroit Engineering firms on various City of Detroit Water and Sewage Projects. Duane later started his Information Technology Consulting business with contracting assignments with the City of Detroit Fire Department under the Honorable Coleman A. Young's administration. In 1997, Duane met and later married his soulmate, Sharon Gaston and her 4 children. In 2002, due to Breast Cancer, our Lord chose to call Sharon back home. Even without his soulmate, Sharon, Duane continues to enjoy every second that is spent with their 4 grown children and 5 grandchildren.

Brenda K Sanders
Brenda K. Sanders is a candidate for the 36th Judicial District Court bench. She was born in the City of Detroit on March 6, 1959. She is the youngest to a twin sibling, Linda S. Sanders. She also has a younger brother. Brenda’s parents were blue-collar workers in the City of Detroit. Her father worked for General Motors and her mother worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation. Brenda attended Brady Elementary School on Joy Road in Detroit. Brenda studied music at the Brady Elementary School and it is in that setting that she began to play the harp. She aspired to play in the Barry White Orchestra, but instead chose to embark on a career as a lawyer. Brenda majored in Political Science at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. Brenda obtained her law degree from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School in 1983. Brenda has been practicing law for twenty-three years in the City of Detroit. Brenda has handled thousands of cases in the 36th District Court in the Traffic Division of the Court as well as the Civil Division.

Coleman A. Young II
Coleman Young II is the son of Annivory Calvert and the late Coleman A. Young who served as the Mayor of Detroit for twenty years. Born as one Joel Loving, Young II adopted the name of his father after his mother won a lawsuit establishing paternity. Young II was raised in California, but returned to Detroit in 2005. In 2006, he was elected to represent the 4th District on Detroit’s east side as one of the youngest state representatives in Michigan’s history. Young has also earned credit towards a communications degree at Wayne State University.
