Detroit Fireworks

The Target Fireworks celebration won't take place until this Wednesday in Detroit. But preparations for this major event are already underway. My TV 20's Jorge Avellan has the story.

Workers from the Zambelli International Firework company are placing explosives on barges in the Detroit River, that will be used for the 51st annual Target Fireworks.

Patrick Brault
"I think my last count was six thousand. There is more explosions than that because sometimes one shell or one candle will have anywhere from three to up ten explosions inside of one. So we are looking at over ten thousand."

The firworks show is set to start this Wednesday at 10:06 PM at the Detroit Riverfront.

Music will also be played along with the loud pops of exploding lights...

Tony Michaels
"All top 40, a lot of patriotic music and so on. And just ripping through out the entire show."

This years firework choreographer, will add a new twist to the show.

Patrick Brault
"Again in relationship to criss crossing, going from the ground level up and haveing waves and shells going from left to right, right to left, up and down. I try to put more movement in my shows and I guess that fits with the Detroit music...the Motown, you got to get those hips moving."

We're told about one million people attend the firework show in Detroit every year.
