Detroit Public Schools announcing an audit showing the system may have ghost employees. Those are people on the payroll that don't actually work.

After all thirteen thousand district employees were asked to pick up their paychecks in person, 257 people did not show up. As a result, DPS will now investigate the names of those who didn't get their checks to determine if they are legitimate employees or not. The Detroit Federation of Teachers believes the possible ghost employees are not teachers.

KEITH JOHNSON - PRESIDENT OF DETROIT FEDERATION OF TEACHERS
"Most of these I would suspect are not teachers because we get a payroll report every two weeks and one of the things we do is match up that payroll report with those members who are paying dues. So therefore we don't suspect that these would involve teachers."

The total amount paid to alleged "ghost teachers" is just over two hundred thousand dollars.
