It's been privately owned for more than 100 years. But, General Motors is just hours away tonight from having a new owner.

My TV 20's Dave Leval shows us how Uncle Sam is about to be GM's new boss.

The sun shines on the Detroit River and the rest of the Motor City. However, the sun may be setting on the way most of us know General Motors, especially who owns it.

A bankruptcy judge denied two appeals late Tuesday Night. That all but clears the way for the federal government to take control of General Motors, as early as Thursday afternoon.

Warren's Powertrain Plant is part of what are considered GM's "good assets." Groups with asbestos and injury-related claims tried to block the sale of those items. But, the judge ruled he did not believe those groups would win in federal court, since they lost similar challenges during the Chrysler sale. Plus, the judge pointed out GM stands to lose $50 billion in government funding, should the sale not be completed by Friday.

Opponents of the sale have until noon Thursday to file their appeals. Otherwise, GM becomes what many people are already calling it, "Government Motors." In Detroit, Dave Leval, My TV 20 News

The Federal Government would own 60% of the new GM. The UAW would be the next largest shareholder. Both groups are pledging to sell their shares as soon as possible.
