With less than two weeks away, the city of Detroit is still in desperate need of volunteers for it’s “Angels Night” campaign. My TV 20’s Jorge Avellan tells us what you can do to help.

To prevent arson fires during the Halloween weekend, the city of Detroit is once again moving forward with it’s “Angels Night” safety campaign.

Organizers of the event are looking for volunteers to help from October 29th through the 31st.

Beverlyn Hilton
"If you have an abandoned home in your community contact your neighborhood city hall or you can call the 311 number and let them know you have one. We do have signs “This House is Being Watched” sign that our police department and our fire department are putting up."

You can also volunteer by patrolling the streets of Detroit.

Beverlyn Hilton
"If you have the opportunity to patrol that’s a major difference, because that will deter the crime, that will keep people out there, they’ll see the flashing lights, they’ll see people walking around and they know they can’t go into this area to start a fire."

Making sure minors under eighteen years of age follow a city wide curfew during the Angels Night campaign can also be considered as volunteering.

Asst. Chief Ralph Godbee Jr.
"The 29th it’s six PM to six AM, Angels Night, which we refer to as the emergency ordinance curfew is six PM to the following six AM and then for Halloween is eight PM to six AM."

The city is also asking residents to turn on their porch lights from October 29th through the 31st to let the public know they support the Angels Night Campaign.
