The "BEST" Come To Town

There's a new program in place tonight to protect both sides of the border between Detroit and Canada. You could say it's the "BEST."

Representatives from both countries gathered in the Motor City this morning to unveil The Border Enforcement Security Task Force. It's made up of 50 local, state, and federal agencies, including Detroit
Police. A member of each will work in an office located in Detroit's McNamara Federal Building. Task Force members tell us the effort will increase response times to catch crooks.

Brian Moskowitz
US Immigration & Customs
"Now, we're not slowing down at the port trying to figure out who can we call at OBP, Windsor, CBSA, they're there. Those things can happen real time."

Chief Gary Smitherson
Windsor Police Service
"Conversely, if they have a person going to this area, can you check this out, do some surveilance, we can do that, rather than going thru Washington, Ottawa, coming back down, because timing is everything."

Task Force members helped seize a large amount of marijuana earlier this month that entered Detroit from Canada. This is the 18th "BEST" team around the country.
