FBI Shootout10/29/2009
Federal authorities say the leader of a radical group of American authorities say the leader of a radical group of American Sunni Muslims in Detroit had repeatedly told his followers that the government was the enemy. And they say he told them they had to be willing to take on the FBI, even if it meant death. Luqman Ameen Abdullah was killed in a shootout with Federal agents at a warehouse in Dearborn yesterday. Agents were attempting to arrest him on charges including conspiracy to sell stolen goods and illegal possession and sale of firearms. He was one of 11 people named in a criminal complaint after a 2 yr investigation. Agents say Abdullah refused to surrender, he fired a weapon and was killed when agents returned fire. Authorities say this group is associated with a group called "Ummah", which seeks to establish a Sharia-Law Islamic state within the US. Terrence Berg Meanwhile, one of the group members police had been searching for was arrested today in Canada. The FBI says 30 yr old Mujahid Carswell was arrested today by Windsor police. He is the son of Abdullah. Two other suspects: Yassir Ali Khan and Muhammad Alsahli, remain at large. They are both facing charges of conspiracy to commit Federal crimes. And FBI agents are mourning the loss of one of their own after yesterday's raid. K9 unit "Freddy" was killed during the shootout at the warehouse in Dearborn.
