Green Buildings

Six of Detroit’s old empty buildings will soon be redeveloped as “green” structures. The city’s Green Task Force announced a private group by the name of “Key Investment” has purchased the Book and Book Tower, among other buildings for 320 million dollars.

The group plans to make the buildings green by installing energy efficient windows and removing access antennas to name a few.

The Green Task Force was created last year by city council president Ken Cockrel Junior to attract green business deals to Detroit.

KEN COCKREL JR.
DETROIT CITY COUNCIL PRESIDENT
"The task force was created and continues to operate to try to attract new jobs to the city of Detroit, green industry. We can’t continue to rely on the auto industry, that a big part of who we are, it was part of our past, but looking towards the future, I don’t think it’s going to be a big part of the future. We got to diversify."

As of right now, the Book and Book Tower are the only buildings being named as part of the purchase.

The other four are expected to be revealed in December.
