Detroit Municipal Election

Tomorrow, Detroit voters will hit the polls to decide who will be mayor and part of city council for the next four years, among other positions. Today, Detroit’s Department of Elections announced they’re ready for the election.

My TV 20’s Jorge Avellan has the story.

With less than a day before Detroit’s municipal election, the city’s Department of Elections told reporters this morning all their voting machines are working properly.

Daniel Baxter
"Our Auto-Marks and our M-100’s have been tested for accuracy to make sure that they are functioning the way they should function on election day and as well as election night for our reporting. Our public accuracy test was administered on Thursday, that went very well."

Voters who are unsure of where there polling site is located, will be able to receive assistance at any voting precinct tomorrow.

Daniel Baxter
"We have the electronic poll book technician at the precinct on election day, we have the date file who can tell voters if they are at the wrong precinct, exactly where they need to go. And they get a little pass where they don’t have to stand in line again so there vote can be executed in a timely matter."

Election officials say there prepared to provide ballots to all 572 thousand Detroit registered voters, but expect a low voter turn-out.

Daniel Baxter
"We expect turnout to be anywhere from twenty to twenty-five percent , which translates into 115 thousand to 145 thousand voters are expected to go the polls on election day or are voting or are voting by absentee ballot."

Make sure you tune into My TV 20 News At Ten tomorrow night for the election results.
