Treats For Troops

Many kids continue filling up tonight on their Halloween goodies. But, Oakland County's top cop hopes to seize some of the candy. My TV 20's Dave Leval shows us why the Sheriff wants to share it with
those who were unable to spend Halloween at home.

It's supposed to be a sweet gesture...

"Let it go babe"

But, it leaves some people feeling sour.

"You didn't want to put your candy there?"

Maybe not, but, others have no problem giving up some of their Halloween candy.

"We got too much candy, I thought it's better off to help them out."

Them are half a world away from home.

The candy is going to American troops serving in the War on Terrorism and elsewhere. "The Treats for Troops" campaign is a way of saying thanks. It's the brainchild of Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard.

"You've got men and women serving across the globe and they are doing these things beause of us. It's a little reminder of home that people are thinking of them."

Tuesday is your last day to donate candy. You can drop it off at any of the Sheriff's Sub-stations around Oakland County. You can find those locations by logging onto http://www.oakgov.com/sheriff.

Meanwhile, employees at Northville's Rangel Orthondontics will collect
"Treats for Troops Tuesday from 12:30-5:30pm. Kids will be given a dollar for every pound of candy they donate, and Dr. Daniel Rangel will match that by donating a dollar to Northville's Civic Concern. Rangel Orthodontics is located at 125 CadyCentre, Northville.
