MT. CLEMENS (MyTV 20) - A Macomb County Sheriff's Deputy remains on leave tonight following a deadly shooting of an inmate at a hospital.
Investigators say Jamin Totty died shortly after he was shot in the emergency room at Mt. Clemens Regional Medical Center Thursday.
The 32-year-old from Chesterfield Township was there to undergo surgery.
But investigators claim Totty grabbed what is called a "retractable IV" thursday night, and lunged at the unidentified deputy.
He fired after Totty refused orders to drop the object.
Neither the deputy, nor anyone else in the hospital, was hurt.
