YPSILANTI (MyTV 20) - There's something missing tonight from the backyard of an Ypsilanti man.
Bill Riney had been on a crusade to save his trees from being cut. It was not enough. Crews from Novi-based International Transmission Company removed the treetops this morning that threatened nearby high-voltage lines. A judge approved the tree cutting on Monday.
It's the latest chapter in the standoff that began last June, when Riney spent three days in the trees to try and save them from being destroyed.
Riney rejected an offer of $12,500 from the company for the trees.
