SOUTHFIELD (MyTV 20) - Local area Islamic Leaders met Friday to express their views on the Fort Hood massacre that took place last week.
Muslim leaders were in Southfield, denouncing the actions of accused Fort Hood gunman Major Nadal Malik Hussein. Hussein faces the death penalty if convicted of killing 13 people on the Texas military base last week.
The Imams met today because they wanted it to be made clear that although Hussein is Muslim…he doesn't represent the Islamic faith. Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan
Leaders also talked about the fallout from the shooting, in which the amounts of threatening phone calls they normally receive have increased. But instead of that causing anger within the community…Islamic leaders have boosted efforts to educate the public about their faith.
