Police in East Lansing are investigating the death of a Michigan State University student from Adrian found unresponsive at his fraternity early Saturday morning.

The Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity identified the student as Brian McMillen, a longtime member who held several positions with the fraternity.

The 22-year-old student's roommate found him not breathing at 5:39 a.m. on a couch in his bedroom at the fraternity, 432 Evergreen, according to East Lansing Police.

After the roommate called 911, the East Lansing Fire Department treated him at the scene. The student was later pronounced dead at Sparrow Hospital.

Officers suspected no foul play Saturday, but detectives this morning were assigned to the case to interview those who were with McMillen before his death and review any toxicology reports, said East Lansing Police Capt. Kim Johnson.

“They’ll start going to through it with a fine tooth comb,” he said.

McMillen was studying environmental soil sciences and chemistry and planned to graduate in the spring, said David McCalla, fraternity president.

McCalla said McMillen and others had been “hanging out” Friday night and had been drinking, though it’s not clear that it contributed to his death.

There was no organized event at the fraternity on Friday, McCalla said.

McCalla said after the roommate found McMillen, he immediately called authorities.

McCalla said fraternity brothers knew immediately McMillen was in "pretty bad shape.”

The fraternity will wait to hear from the Ingham County coroner and authorities.

In the meantime, fraternity brothers are helping plan a candlelight vigil at 6 tonight on Farm Lane.
