Attorney General Loses Legal Fight Against DPS

DETROIT, MI (My TV20 News at 10) --- There will be no changes for the Detroit school board.

A Wayne County Judge has denied Attorney General Bill Schuette’s motion to have the majority removed.

Schuette filed the lawsuit in August.

He argued seven of the 11 board members are illegally holding office.

Schuette claimed the seven were elected by district in 2011, when DPS had fewer than 100,000 students.

That violated state law because school districts must have at least 100,000 students in order for board members to be chosen by districts.
