WINDSOR, ON (My TV20 News at 10) --- You need a giant cake to feed the thousands of people who turned out to celebrate Independence Day.

Not America's but, our nearest neighbor's birthday.

Windsor is among the cities celebrating the 146th "Canada Day."

It marks the joining of the British North American colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada into a federation of four provinces.

The last got divided into Ontario and Quebec.

The British parliament and Cabinet kept limited rights of political control over the new country that were shed by stages over the years until the last vestiges were surrendered in 1982.

That's when the Canadian Constitution too affect.

Canada Day is observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday.

It's celebrated on July 2 should that happen.
