A major winter storm is developing today over Kansas. The storm will track to northern Illinois by early Thursday. Heavy snow is likley in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin with blizzard conditions in Kansas and eastern Colorado. This track will give us mostly rain. However, cold air behind the system will bring snow showers on Friday. Accumulations will be light, but an inch or so is possible. If that happens, it looks cold enough to keep some of the snow on the ground until Christmas here in Detroit. Travel could be difficult in the southwest Michigan lake snowbelt on Friday with several inches of snow possible especially in the Grand Rapids area.
