More Perks in the Workplace?

If you could have one perk in your workplace, what would it be? This was the question posed by CareerBuilder in a recent survey of nearly 4,000 full-time workers.

When it comes to the workplace, a majority of workers (59 percent) feel they would like their job more if they had a flexible schedule. Thirty-three percent said they would love the opportunity to work from home while 48 percent wanted to make a difference.

As for perks, 40 percent of American workers said they wanted half-day Fridays. Twenty percent said they would love an on-site fitness center. There was nearly a tie for the ability to wear jeans, daily catered lunches, and massages. Last on the list was on-site daycare at six percent.

"What determines job satisfaction is not a one-size-fits-all, but flexibility, recognition, the ability to make a difference and yes, even special perks, can go a long way," said Rosemary Haefner, Vice President of Human Resources at CareerBuilder. "Being compensated well will always be a top consideration, but we're seeking work-life balance, telecommuting options and learning opportunities outweight other job factors when an employee decides whether to stay with an organization."
