J.J. and Lynne fired from morning show at WCSX

By B.J. HAMMERSTEIN • METROMIX EDITOR

Morning radio fans will miss two of Detroit’s most well-known voices on their Wednesday commute as Jim Johnson and Lynne Woodison, the co-hosts of the "J.J. & Lynne in the Morning" show, have been fired from their post at classic rocker WCSX-FM (94.7).

“We were told yesterday (Monday) that there would be a meeting with us Tuesday to talk about the show, the new ratings system and some other things regarding changes in the media," said Johnson, a fixture on Detroit radio since the '70s, and a distinctive voice at 'CSX for 16 years. "And they told us that that in March our contract was up, they would not be renewing it and today was your last show.

“Honestly, who knows what tomorrow will bring, but we had very loyal listeners who have been following us for all my 31 years on air in Detroit, they are the ones who made this possible and I will miss that aspect greatly."

John Gallagher, market manager of Greater Media, Inc., the company that oversees Detroit stations CSX, WRIF-FM (101.1) and WMGC-FM (105.1), confirmed the dismissals. Starting Wednesday, listeners can expect an interim classic rock music format.

“We expect to make an announcement in the very near future, but we are very grateful for the contributions J.J. and Lynne have made, and their philanthropic efforts in the community. They are consumate professionals.”

Gallagher added that there is a message from him on CSX’s web site at wcsx.com.

Woodison joined Johnson at CSX 11 years ago. They've both worked with many other Detroit rock stations throughout the years, including WRIF and WWWW.

“I love what I do and I hope that I can still be on air… there are no hard feelings,” Woodison said Tuesday. “We have a wonderful audience and they have become really good friends. I’ll miss our listeners very much.”
