Mackinac Island ranks No. 8 in HGTV’s one-hour special, “Top Christmas Towns,” to air at 8 p.m. Dec. 7.
The cable network looked for unique holiday celebrations across the country and singled out 10. Mackinac gets the nod for its vintage Christmas feel, with horse and buggy rides and Santa visits with every child on the island to hear their Christmas wish.
Ranking No. 1 is Leavenworth, Wash., home to a Bavarian village. Durango, Colo., claimed the No. 2 spot on the list for its Old West Christmas.
Other cities to be featured in the special are Woodstock, Vt., for its Medieval-style Christmas; Kennebunkport, Maine, for its Christmas by the Sea; Mountain View, Ark., for an Ozarks Christmas; North Pole, Ala., for its Alaskan Christmas; Alexandria, Va., for its Scottish Christmas; New Orleans for its French Quarter Christmas; and San Antonio, Texas, for its Southwestern Christmas.
