Cityfest Lowdown

By freep.com

There's one word that always seems to get Detroiters excited, and that's "free." Kicking off Wednesday, the annual Comerica Cityfest (formerly Tastefest) is getting ready to deliver some of the best sounds, tastes and entertainment the city has to offer during the five-day, free festival over the Fourth of July weekend.

Music is a driving force, and this year Cityfest will jam tunes from more than 70 performers, from national acts De La Soul, the Veronicas and Buddy Guy to a ton of great home-grown musicians like the Silent Years, Lies Unknown, the Hentchmen and dozens more.

"For those interested in this kind of music, it's truly a bargain," says New Center Council president Michael Solaka.

While entry into the festival is free, do be prepared to dish out some dough to sample the food and drinks from nearly 40 restaurants.

Taste tickets are $10 for 16 tickets and will get you grub from places like Centaur, Happy's Pizza, Harbor House, Lazybone Smokehouse, Good Girls go to Paris and many other Detroit staples.
