DETROIT (MyTV 20) - In a letter sent to Detroit Public Schools, the ACLU of Michigan accuses the district of violating students human rights by performing mass student searches.
The ACLU of Michigan wants Detroit Public Schools financial manager Robert Bobb to stop performing mass student searches and the use of pepper spray at the district. This after the ACLU claims dozens of students at Mumford High school have been searched several times this year for no reason.
Some DPS school board members agree with the ACLU because of past lawsuits the district has lost due to similar situations.
Representatives from Robert Bobb's office did not want to comment on camera. However, in a statement sent to My TV 20, they say "The district denies unconstitutional mass searches and the indiscriminate use of pepper spray on students by the district's police force, as alleged."
