Super Bowl Ads

Super Bowl Ads

January 20, 2011

The party continues in the Big Easy tonight as the fans of the New Orleans Saints celebrate their Super Bowl win. But, there's another debate raging tonight about another big winner from the game. My TV 20's Dave Leval shows us some of the top commercials from Super
Bowl 44.

Oakland County students enjoy their lunch at the University of Detroit
Mercy. The price is sharing their views not on Super Bowl 44, but, rather sharing their thoughts of their favorite ads that aired during the big game.

Student
"The Betty White Commercial, it was pretty funny."

Student
"My favorite Super Bowl ad? Probably Doritos Ninja!"

Student
"Doritos commercial, all of them are very good."

The students discuss what worked and didn't work in the Annual Super Bowl Ad Nauseum.

Mike Bernacchi
"What do you think was the difference?"

University Marketing Professor Mike Bernacchi once again hosts luncheon as he seeks input from the students. Bernacchi believes the formula for commericals is changing.

DR. MIKE BERNACCHI/UDM MARKETING
"The ads still carry the night, but, it's a social medium before, and media buzz after, it's this whole composite."

The buzz at this luncheon is something that could have been on the menu.

Commercial
"Hey little man you might have your hands full when I pick up the controler." Slap! "Put it back! Keep your hands off my momma! Keep your hands off my Doritos!"

This Doritos commerical is tops in the student's survey. Bernacchi is not surprised.

BERNACCHI
"No special effect. The special effect, My God, the communication in 2010 is Human Communication!"

Doritos takes home the top three spots. The students find the fourth best commercial is, well, golden.

Commercial
"You play like Betty White." "That's not what your girlfriend says!"

Betty White's appearance in the Snickers commercials also earns high marks.

The Bud-Light House is fifth on the list. But, Anheiser Bush, the maker of the beer, may be going flat. Bernacchi points out beer commericals are usually higher on the list. Annheiser-Bush remains the king of beers, just not Super Bowl commercials. At the University of Detroit Mercy, Dave Leval, My TV 20 News at 10.

Nationally, "Snickers" is rated the top commercial, while the kid in the
"Doritos" ad comes in at number 11.
