Comerica Bank is still accepting donations for its annual Prom Dress Drive through this Friday, April 21 to support Jackets for Jobs as they help local teens, who may not have otherwise gone to prom, find their dream dresses. Donations of new or gently used dresses can be dropped off at participating Comerica locations.

“For the past several years, our colleagues, customers and communities have come together with tremendous generosity during our previous prom dress drives to support local teens,” said Linda Nosegbe, Comerica Bank National Community Impact Manager, in a press release. “As the interest in contributing to this great cause remains strong, our new partnership with Jackets for Jobs allows us to continue connecting to the community through an outstanding community organization driven to help others to thrive and succeed.”

For the first time, dresses and accessories will be donated to Jackets for Jobs, “a Detroit-based nonprofit that focuses on career development and removes barriers by providing high-quality clothing that makes clients look and feel professional to support workplace success,” said Comerica Bank.

As a high school junior with two months until prom, Aria Singleton is looking forward to the big day. But this year, the cost of buying a dress made things difficult.

“My parents can’t afford a big fancy prom dress how I want, but they’ve got cute prom dresses here, so why not just come here,” said Singleton, who headed to Jackets for Jobs on Detroit's east side.

Alison Vaughn, Jackets for Jobs Founder and Executive Director, has spent more than two decades providing free dress clothes to those struggling with rising prices. Among those who have donated, 7 Action News anchors Carolyn Clifford and Glenda Lewis.

“Prom is that culmination, the last big dance of the year, 4 years of friendship and forming bonds and all of that for school," said Vaughn.

Vaughn, a proud Detroiter, was thrilled to partner with Comerica Bank at a variety of metro Detroit locations to accept hundreds of dresses for teens.

“This is a time for them to really show their personality like ... this is how I look all dressed up," she said.
