As the COVID-19 surge heads into the holiday season, shoppers are finding more empty shelves across metro Detroit.
Stores like Kroger and Walmart are now placing purchase limits on in-demand items like toilet paper and paper towels.

It's a familiar scene at popular grocery stores like Kroger at Grand River and Beck in Novi and Telegraph and Long Lake in Bloomfield.
Customers say they are back to buying up food and drinks, along with paper towels and toilet paper amid new COVID-19 restrictions in the state. At some smaller grocery stores, they have been successful at keeping up with demand.
"We are ready now," said Joe Montgomery, General Manager at Johnny Pomodoro's Fresh Market. "We are ready now. We've been loading up on toilet paper and paper towel for some weeks now."
There's also been a continued rise in curbside and delivery orders with no end in sight.
In part of a statement, a Kroger spokesperson told 7 Action News:
"There's plenty of food in the supply chain. If people just buy what they need, it'll keep working well. We are replenishing our stores daily with the supplies and products our customers need most."
